These dolls are 9 inches tall and 6 inches wide, weighing 300 grams. They represent the traditional Sherpa, which is a Nepali ethnic group that lives high up in the Himalayas. The Sherpa are well known for their exceptional mountaineering skills.
The female doll’s attire consists of the following: a tongkok - a floor-length, long-sleeved dress made of thick wool; a metil apron worn on the front; and a kyetig – an embossed buckle.
The male doll also has a long-sleeved robe – called chhuba – that goes slightly beyond the knee and is tied around the waist with a kara, which is a cloth sash. This garment is worn over a blouse or raatuk, and trousers or kanam.
